Bahia has the highest number of hospitalized infants due to malnutrition
Last 12 months, the Unified Health System (USS) registered 2,754 hospitalizations of infants underneath 1 12 months previous due to malnutrition. The research is from the Observatory of Child Health (Observa Infância) with knowledge from the Hospital Information System (SHI) of the Ministry of Health and is equal to seven hospitalizations per day throughout the nation.
The state of Bahia and its capital Salvador lead the means rating with the highest number of hospitalizations, 480 and 159 respectively. Cristiano Boccolini, coordinator of Observa Infância, highlights the disparity between Brazilian areas and cities:
“While the North East recorded 1,175 hospitalizations in 2022, the North carried out 328 hospitalizations for the similar causes final 12 months. Looking at the capitals, we now have Salvador with 159 hospitalizations and Cuiaba with just one”.
The researcher from the Health Information Laboratory of the Institute of Scientific and Technological Communication and Information in Health (Icict/Fiocruz) believes that the knowledge collected in the SIH should still endure adjustments due to the time it takes to finalize the information in the system.
“In the present state of affairs, though the system registered a slight lower in the number of hospitalizations of infants underneath 1 12 months due to malnutrition in the nation from 2021 to 2022, from 2946 to 2754 hospitalizations, we will think about that the pattern continues – which is alarming.”
